ARTIST STATEMENT
"Art is a drug, one that is so powerful that transforms and elevates you to an unknown paradise of peace and satisfaction. When I paint I set my soul free, I feel alive, tranquil and at peace".
CURATOR'S CRITIC
Makhlouf 'art could be classified as Neo-Expressionist, with notable influences from Picasso in his Cubism phase and later in his Realism; and also from Basquiat, with his fresh, urban Expressionism, which utilizes any medium or material to conceive a work of art.

George's paintings have their own visual language, which, through the use of symbols, figures, and words, creates a distinctive narrative. His style is raw, spontaneous, and primitive, a form of expression that contradicts the conventional sophistication of the art world.

His pieces are characterized by a mix of different techniques and depiction of characters in everyday situations who express clear messages. Each of Makhlouf's paintings has a story behind it, many of which are part of popular culture and others from the artist's imagination.

In some of his series, the lines become linear, with angular shapes and geometric figures predominating, all intended to represent nature and the human figure, in the way Picasso depicted them. The object is broken down into various planes through lines and surfaces, in some cases losing perspective but arranged in a different way.

The use of vibrant colors in contrast with grays and blacks, constitutes a powerful tool capable of intensely influencing our perception and emotions.

Just as Basquiat was influenced by pop culture, jazz, and hip hop, which was emerging in New York when he was still a teenager, Makhlouf's work is also influenced 1980s music. Glam rock and pop can also be felt in each of his paintings. In fact, the artist uses music in his moments of inspiration, which is subtly reflected when the work is completed.
